“The punchy bottom string riff brings a raw feel and the unfiltered vocals of Danny Garland are the cherry on top of this garage rock banger.”
WORDS BY ALI GRICE
Triple AAA is the 2nd single off Phoxjaw’s long awaited debut album Royal Swan, an LP delving into a fantasyscape of Medieval England, drawing parallels with the political standings of modern Britain and our elusive ancestry. The alternative Bristol outfit are known for their intoxicatingly high energy performances and uncategorisable sound. Triple AAA brings a whisper of the old Phoxjaw whilst unashamedly presenting a new, refined sound, rife with vigour and zeal.
Steering the track are the classic guitar driven melodies Phoxjaw are known for, paired with a stomping drum line and a spiky staccato synth building up suspense throughout the track. The punchy bottom string riff brings a raw feel and the unfiltered vocals of Danny Garland are the cherry on top of this garage rock banger.
“You cannot break our spines
Now that we follow our own minds”
It is a product of the times that all independent music video releases are inevitably home filmed, produced and bedroom mastered. Triple AAA’s video is no exception. Peppered with empty fields, skips and a toothbrush facial, Phoxjaw’s quarantine video gives a window into making the most of a stark isolated reality. Now a mainstay on the UK rock scene’s ‘Look Mum, I’ve made it!’ radio show (Daniel P Carter’s Radio 1 Rock Show), the only way is is up for these Bristol noise makers.
Royal Swan is out July 3rd via Hassle Records
